A rural bungalow in Aberdeenshire has upgraded its heating system this summer, to save on energy and bills while reducing the homes carbon footprint. The client and family now have a cosy home with an A+++ rated renewable system.
The client was previously using modernised slimline electric storage heaters to heat the property, before upgrading to the renewable, highly efficient air source heat pump. The client approached Greener Energy Group to discuss whether a heat pump would be suitable for his home inMay of 2021 only a couple months after the national lockdown ended and the business had begun operating again. Greener Energy Group then carried out three separate visits including a full technical survey to access the property, its heating requirements and to determine the appropriately sized heat pump and model. As the EPC identified that the home had a high energy performance, this meant that it didn’t require any additional insulation or other energy efficiency measures prior to installation.
The technical team selected the Grant UK’s Aerona3 inverter driven air source heat pump in the 10KW size alongside a standard 200 litre cylinder after the home survey. The Grant UK’s heat pump is not only highly efficient, but also uses a more environmentally friendly R32 refrigerant. In addition to this, the unit is 822mm in height and 405mm in depth making it compact in size and easier to situate when outdoor space is limited. To operate the heat pump, the customer had a full new wet system installed and of the previous 9 heaters in the home, 7 were replaced with brand new high efficiency radiators to complete the system.
The installation was carried out by a family team made up of Father, David, and two sons, Daniel and Nathan Cumming who completed the work in just three days. The client commented on the Greener Energy Group’s Trust Pilot website:
“A whole bungalow in 3 days, wow. With limited room under the floor Nathan and team got about the ASHP installation and totally new central heating system with gusto. Very tidy, no-nonsense attitude and took our needs on board without hesitation. Great can-do attitude and will recommend greener energy group anytime. Great work guys, thank you.”
Due to the suitability of the home for the new system, and Greener Energy Groups accreditations and third-party compliance measures, the homeowner is now claiming the Government RHI incentive. After installation, Greener Energy Group were there to support him when applying for this funding and continue to provide support should he come into any issues or have any queries. When describing the service the office staff provided, the client commented that the team: “Went above and beyond with any help (he) needed”. With the heat pumps manufacturer, Grant UK, providing a 7-year warranty on the unit for parts and labour, and Greener Energy Groups team of engineers covering all of mainland Scotland for remedials, the customer has peace of mind knowing that he will be covered for any problems should they arise.
This case study of a typical air source hear pump installation showcases a property upgrading its heating system to an eco-friendly reliable alternative to burning harmful fossil fuels. As well as massively reducing the homes carbon footprint, the clients also benefit from a cosy home with lowered energy bills each month.
