The client approached Greener Energy Group looking to begin a switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy to future proof their home and reduce their carbon footprint. The client’s home was previously heated by a system gas boiler, but with gas prices increasing, the client wanted to have the option between dual sources, and so was advised to incorporate the air source heat pump to work alongside the gas boiler. The client was therefore able to benefit from the Home Energy Scotland’s cashback scheme and received a non-repayable £8000 to fund the installation, with any further costs being offered as an interest free loan.
The previous system boiler that was already installed was replaced with a new 34 litre Ecotec Plus 430 boiler from Vaillant, as well as the 45litre Aerotherm buffer tank, and after technical survey, the Vaillant’s 5kw Arotherm heat pump was selected. This model uses natural refrigerant R290 to achieve a flow temperature of up to 75 degrees Celsius and the system operates in temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius. With the client opting for a hybrid system rather than a standalone heat pump, the existing radiators did not require larger replacements, and the system could connect to the existing pipework, making the installation simple completed in only 2 days.
Now, the client has a system consisting of a gas boiler and an air source heat pump, programmed with smart technology which will determine the cheapest and most efficient product to use based on current energy prices, outdoor temperatures, and indoor heat capacity. By making the most out of both systems, hybrid air source heating improves energy efficiency and safeguards the home from potential price increases on both electricity and gas, reducing reliance on the unpredictable national grid.
With electricity prices also seeing huge spikes in price and the energy cap being increased, the client decided to invest in solar panels to off-set costs even further.
The homes positioning and roof size made it possible for a total of 14 panels to be fitted, totalling to a 5.11kW system size. The customer also benefitted from an EV charger offered free with Greener Energy Groups contract, to lower their footprint and prepare for an electric future even better, as eventually the energy generated from solar panels can charge vehicles and reduce the need to petrol or diesel. When commenting on the installation of the solar PV system, the customer wrote the following:
“The install team were professional and quick, I believe 3 hours from starting to electricity being generated. The equipment installed is of good quality and having checked around the price is very reasonable. I would, and have, recommended them to others.”
